Raimo: 10:53:53
heippa Christina,
Christina: 10:54:53
howdy
Christina: 10:55:15
how are you?
margarethe schock: 10:55:39
hi raimo
Christina: 10:56:22
ina and me are sitting in a symposion about education in the new medium, a lot of scientists holding speeches, some of them interesting and good, some not...
Raimo: 10:57:09
I´m fine, well sleeped night behind.
margarethe schock: 10:57:30
some are boring as well
Raimo: 10:57:47
Symposium is good for you knees
Christina: 10:58:31
so we should talk quickly about panopti because the one speaking at the moment is boring and confused
margarethe schock: 10:59:55
they all talk a lot about foucault
Christina: 10:59:57
I must admit, I have not done much... but i have started to read foucault. i do not want to concentrate on it, but i thought i should know something about him.
margarethe schock: 11:00:33
me too thank you for the issue
Raimo: 11:00:51
I´ve planned to go in to the user researches,
Christina: 11:01:51
and next week i am going to talk to my brother about traces in the web and how we can collect data
margarethe schock: 11:01:52
what do you mean with this?
margarethe schock: 11:03:02
i still stick on leaving traces in the web without recognizing it
Christina: 11:03:16
do you have any ideas about what kind of data we would like to collect and what i should ask him
Christina: 11:03:17
?
Raimo: 11:03:22
It is about why we are there, I mean on the web? Why people are surfing, blogging etc and leaving traces.
margarethe schock: 11:03:38
ip numbers plus hometown code
margarethe schock: 11:04:06
plus time of visits
Raimo: 11:04:48
yeah and a hole bunch of cookies and other hidden spions impemented in softwear.
margarethe schock: 11:05:01
yes
Christina: 11:05:30
because i would like to make some kind of visualizations of traces people leave on the web, like a map of webpages or something, using social software. but i just have the idea, not concrete at all. so i wanted to talk to him about possibilities
Christina: 11:06:41
we could make two parts, one information part about cookies, data-mining... more on a technical level and one social part trying to visualize human traces on technologies
margarethe schock: 11:07:25
i write an article about surveilleince culture in social softwaere like my space etc i will upload it when it's finished
Christina: 11:08:28
what do you think? do you have any idea what kind of data from where we should try to collect to show the impact of using social software and of sharing interest and informations etc. in the "public" (what is public?)
margarethe schock: 11:10:48
why not use flickr, myspace, second world, amazon youtube...
Raimo: 11:11:31
So I got user research, Ina is working on survaillance and Christina visualisation. Right?
Christina: 11:11:40
raimo, i think camie had focused on the same thing as you are going to do now. you could use here answers to her questionary
margarethe schock: 11:12:37
more or less right i think everything will be mixed up at the end
Christina: 11:12:38
i am not sure if i just want to focus on visualization, i also wanted to write an essay about stine, a new study organization tool at hamburg university
Christina: 11:12:55
use flickr etc for what?
Raimo: 11:13:31
yes it was, but I´m doing a research, not a gallup. Sher didn´t havce any theory or methodology, just what some people told her. Right?
Christina: 11:13:53
i do not want to mix screenshots of these services as everybody else does referring to  the use of social software
Christina: 11:14:20
you are right, she had no theory-base at all.
Raimo: 11:14:37
I planning a questionary for our students, and there are about 200 of them.
margarethe schock: 11:14:56
i also want to vizualise some
margarethe schock: 11:15:04
coherences
margarethe schock: 11:16:17
i mean flicker etc as usable social softwaer to keep track of
margarethe schock: 11:16:33
to observe
margarethe schock: 11:17:17
nice researche raimo
Christina: 11:17:23
I have talked to torsten last week and he was not sure what we expect from him, how he should contribute in the blog. and we agreed that we are going to ask him for help, when we have questions. so perhaps you, raimo, could ask him for literature, because he knows a lot.... and therefore we could create one literature page in the wiki where we invite everybody to contribute, ok?
Raimo: 11:18:15
At the moment it could help us to keep some narrow focus in our minds. Even if in the end everything get mingled together. Thats why I suggested some more specific outlines.
Christina: 11:18:28
ina, i think we should meet next week to talk about the visualization and the observe
Christina: 11:18:41
observation, before i talk to my brother
margarethe schock: 11:18:53
well ok
margarethe schock: 11:19:07
lets have some herbstee together
Raimo: 11:20:03
Litterrature for what? Gimme something, otherwise I´ll bring you Plato and Foucalt:)
margarethe schock: 11:20:26
mc luhan?
Christina: 11:20:50
and raimo: right, everybody should focus on one topic and besides we can collect material referring to the wide-range topic, as we started at the moment. To have the wiki filled. and in the end we have three topics and a big collection of linked stuff which we could organize afterwards.
Christina: 11:20:57
oh no, mc luhan...
margarethe schock: 11:21:18
geert lovink?
margarethe schock: 11:22:00
i will take some days off to fill my part of the blog and the wiki with my topic
Christina: 11:22:24
we must use the blog, trying to make our topics concrete. because torsten has a look at it and he can react to it with comments and hints for other literature than foucault and plato.
Christina: 11:23:02
should we force ourselves and say, we post an entry in the blog due to wednesday?
Christina: 11:23:14
or next saturday?
Raimo: 11:24:20
There was a briljant mcluhan document in telly last night, he got grazy....If you could name you focus with one slogan or onliner, it would help me to search and talk with Torsten.  BTW: I could continue with mr Foucault if you like.
margarethe schock: 11:24:52
i will try to do so but i work for a museum the whole next week
Christina: 11:25:21
ok, i promise to do so until wednesday. :-)
Christina: 11:26:21
i do not understand, raimo. i should name one slogan for my focus so you can talk to torsten about more literature? about my focus?
Christina: 11:27:50
wouldn't it be easier to talk to torsten about your focus?
Raimo: 11:30:22
You said that earlier not me, or did you mean that I shoud ask him for myself? Either or - funny and unnessesry. We can do our best, don´t we.
Raimo: 11:30:45
I mean my focus is clear.
Christina: 11:32:01
I meant for yourself, just a proposal, because he asked me how he should support us as our whatever-coach-consultant... and for me his comments are useful, even if i could do it on my own.
Raimo: 11:34:05
In my wiki talk section, there is some preliminary openings from panopticon towards web. I think that is a right place to do some questions and star discussions. Do you get in there, and do for example Torsten have an accsses there.
Christina: 11:35:42
http://panopticon.ferngespraech.net/Wiki/index.php/User_talk:Raimo
Christina: 11:35:45
here?
Raimo: 11:39:51
yeap. You got there. It might be the place where Tosrten could make his comments, suggestions about further readings and so on...what yo think?
Christina: 11:40:06
everybody has access without being logged in. but i will ask him to comment on it.
Christina: 11:43:15
and it is a good idea to use the "my talk" section for discussions about each focus.... I will do so as well and tell torsten about it. what about you, ina?
Raimo: 11:43:30
Then his dons and nots would be open for all of us (not just excluded talks), and he do not haver to do same things more than once if we all are following the discussions.
margarethe schock: 11:44:52
i will try i have a time management problem at the moment may be we should meet and i will use the time to work at my talk side
Christina: 11:45:02
as we are opening everything, making our process transparent, shell we also put these skype discussions online?
Christina: 11:45:38
ina, we could meet once a week, working on this project together?
margarethe schock: 11:45:59
sounds good weekly meeting
Christina: 11:46:06

Christina: 11:48:05
but we should keep it.
Raimo: 11:48:11
There is a lot of chats, they might be used in our final LO, maybe not published as such. I mean there is lot of text.
margarethe schock: 11:48:12
yes we should
margarethe schock: 11:48:24
my be we can vizualise it...
Raimo: 11:48:56

Raimo: 11:49:11
I mean take a...
margarethe schock: 11:49:19
no more difficult...
Christina: 11:49:22
:-)
margarethe schock: 11:49:29
like a matrix
margarethe schock: 11:49:40
ore a piece of film
margarethe schock: 11:50:26
or a 3d model---
Raimo: 11:50:40
This is what visual design is about...mirroring ourselves doing our reflecton about ourselves...
margarethe schock: 11:50:57
you think so?
Christina: 11:51:51
are we ready now? because here starts the break and i am hungry ;-)
margarethe schock: 11:51:52
i think it could be interesting to vizualise a skype discussion i will think about this...
